Compensator/Clutch Nuts

When you get your HD Factory Service Manual, all things like this will be answered! Here is the info from MY manual ('03 UC):

Compensator nut: 1 1/2" socket - torque = 150-165 ft-lbs. (see new tightening procedure and specs from HD)
The compensating nut is rightey tightey, lefty loosey

Clutch hub mainshaft nut: 1 3/16" socket - torque = 70-80 ft-lbs. (lefty thread) Just the opposite of the compensator nut.

Your manual may have different information.

If you happen to have loud pipes you may not hear the noise a loose compensator can make, but you will see an encreasingly rougher idle and engine shake. On touring models the fairing will shake and or vibrate more and more.
