Clutch adjustment (Wheel spinning in neutral)

I have tried to do most of the minor maintenence on my bike. When it comes to the clutch I have a question. My clutch releases about one inch from the grip upon release and seems to work fine when shifting on the road. Just recently I had the bike on the lift and started it in neutral and the back wheel was spinning. It seems like in neutral there should be no rotation or engagement. What do all the more knowledgeable mechanics think?

Thanks for a great forum. THE BEST!

The answer is they all do that
Without any load on the wheel there is a wee bit of a fluid coupling between the plates of the clutch driven by the primary oil being moved about
Some bikes the wheel will move even when in neutral

WOW Thanks for the quick and accurate replies. I consider myself mechanicaly inclined and did not know this or ever hear of it. Thought I was losing it. Thanks again. You guys have all the answers all the time.
