what all could be damaged other than the oil pump when the cam chain tensioners go
Everything that uses oil crank , bearings rockers lack of lube etc etc
That certainly is one of the main worries just because the pump will be scavanging oil from the cam chest so the bits will be right there. But as Bud pointed out, the oil will circulate bits of the tensioners throughout the engine. So, get those spring-loaded tensioners out of there as soon as possible.
I had mine upgraded to the H.D. Screamin' Eagle Hydro tensioner kit 6,000 miles ago and figure it's the best $900.00 I've ever invested in my bike. The many detailed posts about the value of doing that convinced me to git rid of those spring loaded ones.
I have over 30000 miles on my conversion that I did in the fall of 2008. Bike is running strong.
