can a volt gauge register fuel?

tryin to replace a89 flhtc dash with a 1980 dash..which has instaed of fuel gauge a volt meter...will the volt meter resgister the fuel sending unit?

NO. Think about it. The fuel sender reads from where the float level is in the tank.

Even if it did work, what would you do as far as readings? Me thinks even as Bernie says you would have to wire in a resistor or voltage drop along with the sender TOO much work IMO

Are they different size gauges? If not, can't you just swap them out?
