Ambient Air Temp

Could anyone please shed some light on how to enterpret the air temp reading. To what extent does this reading correlate with engine temp? Any upper limit? What's normal? Thanks!

The ambient air temp is a useless gauge and doesn't correlate with engine temps at all being they aren't accurate.

Sort of guessed that... Can you replace it with an oil temp gauge?

Yes many have done it and it's more useful than the other gauge.

Replaced mine with a McEwan unit. Priced right, easy install, and works well.

HI Ted got mine at auto zone / auto=pro 37.00. probe goes in oil tank next to drain plug. h/d makes one to, its in catalog or google it.

I got mine at O'Riellys Auto Parts. Hayden brand $39. The face and numbers don't match the other gauges, but are close enough. It goes to 320 degrees, and has easy to read graduations (unlike Harley's). Easy install if you have any mechanical ability at all.
