Air cleaner trim ring question

I have a 1998 RKCI and the trim ring on the air cleaner was damaged so I ordered a new one which arrived and it appears it is just held on with 2 sided tape, so I assume the old one is as well which suprises me that it would hold up to the heat, so any suggestions on getting the old one off.
Thanks

I removed mine and used a heat gun to soften the tape. Some thinners or goo gone will remove any trace of adhesive left behind. I prefer thinners because it dissolves the adhesive without rubbing it, I left the trim ring off and didn't want to scratch the chrome in that area by rubbing it.

If you remove the air cleaner cover and heat it on the inside the glue sticking to the cover will be softest and should peel off leaving little residue on the cover and like Glider i like to use thinners for cleaning leftover glue from stuff and i always seem to have plenty of thinners laying around
