96 Sporty, what do you think?

My buddy at work wants to get back into riding and he found a 96 Sporty that "needs some work".
He was asking me how much should he pay? (no clue)
Are they 5 speeds ( again no clue)
Should he buy it ? (I say possible money pit)
I like riding not wrenching
So I told him I would post these questions here and get some feed back.
Thanks

What size of Sporty , how many miles , what kind of care has it had , who is prev. owner , what is the asking price ??????????

I will ask him today,Doesnt seem like its just as cheap to buy something in sound running order than keep swapping worn out parts? O yeah its a 1200.

HogHappy, Depending on the questions you have asked you may already have your answer especially if he is interested in riding more so than wrenching......

JMO here --- unless this scoot is a basketcase , dont sell the 1200 Sporty short especially since you state that he is "getting back into riding.." This could be a good deal for your bud to "re-learn" on , sure some say its top heavy.

I would say nice bike to be on 5 speed gearbox belt drive has the later style hand controls will vibrate a wee bit
As i like the evo engines i would buy it if it were me however i already have a sportster and i will keep it even though i have a softail and a dyna
