    Hi Folks

Could someone with a parts/service manual for a 2007 Sportser xl883L look up a part number for me? My jiffy stand was flopping around and I thought the spring was stretched so I picked up a new spring

The dealer sugegsted the jiffy spring part number 50005-85A

This spring appears to be the same as the one I am replacing. The old one is on the top, the new one on the bottom, see pic

When I install this spring where does it connect? In reading posts here, some mention a hole in the frame that the spring clips into. On the sporty it seems to go around the bottom of the pin that the stand pivots on (top arrow in picture below), is that correct?

The spring fell off tonight while riding so I couldn't verify where it came off of.

The spring hooks in the groove of the frame anchor pin (it is near the removable round clevis pin w/ cotter pin), the other end goes in the hole of the jiffy stand leg. In my 2004 Service Manual Jiffy Stand info is under chassis pg 2-92 & 2-93.

Below is the PDF of the 2005 Sportster...look at sm2c..."Jiffy Stand"

Of course you have to level the bike (I lean it against a wood fence or use wall hooks and Ancra straps to secure bike) first.

To install the spring, you must remove the rubber stopper, which allows you to retract the jiffy stand even farther so spring can be installed easier with strong long nose pliers as the spring still needs a fair amount of tension after you hook the jiffy stand end first, to nudge it over the jiffy stand yoke retaining groove (make sure you wear eye protection).

Thanks folks, I'm going to install it shortly and will let you know how it goes

Its strange that the 2 springs appear the same and the old one doesn't look stetched

    thanks a again

Thats because it is an "overcenter" type spring, in that it has modest tension when retracted or deployed and at maximim when you swing it to the middle of the arc.

I replaced the spring and it seems better but is still looser than I would have thought it should be. See the attache video clip, it has the new spring installed :

I would have thought that the stand would come up and make contact with the rubber stopper on the frame. But as you can see in the video, in the retracted position I can still put my finger between the stand and the stopper.

Is this normal ? Non of the folks I ride with have Sportsters so I can't compare there. Thi sall started with the stand drag in left hand coners and escalated to the spring falling off yesterday.

With the new spring, the stand doesn't seem to drag in lefthand corners but is still loose.

Does not sound right, the spring should hold the jiffystand with modest pressure against the rubber stopper, otherwise going over bumps would cause it to bang around. Might need a shorter spring...or something is bent or amiss?

I didn't think it sounded right either.

As for the shorter spring, I went to the dealer and purchased a new spring for a sportser and they sold me the part "50005-85A Jiffystand soring, softtails"

I'm going to try and confirm the part is proper for the 883L and continue to look for something bent

    thanks for the help

Thanks Glider - I'm going to look for a 2007 parts catalog and confirm the part number.
