2005 FLSTSCI Intermintent engine light at start up.

Over the past few weeks the speedo and tach have shut down to 0. Red security light comes on and so does engine light. Usually gauges come back on after security light and engine light go off. Checked all wiring found no ground faults. Had electronics scanned by dealer and report was all modules working to normal parameters. We have done all the wiring checks anyone can thing of. No ground faults, Ohm readings are correct. When dealer checked the engine light had come on at start up so there is no fault.

At start up the engine light does not always come on only when the bikes ambient temp is above 85 F.

When bike sits in direct sunlight for 20-30 min or first thing in the morning engine will come on and the system will do its checks. Wether or not the engine light comes on engine starts and runs fine. Based on dealers recommendation that it was the speedo cluster that was malfunctioning, purchased a new speedo but when attached to the ecm scanner port the errors that came up were No Cal and No Spd.

Dealer says got to bring it in when fault is there. But the thing is that the fault engine light not coming on at start up will fix it self somehow while riding ans the gauges come back on and stay on until the bikes ambient temp goes below 74 F. All connections have been cleaned even the ignition switch and di electric grease applied. The last thing that we did was forced a tip over situation via the TSSM got no start, put TSSM back in the original position and engine light comes on and starts and gauges operate.

Today at 85 F no engine light shook the bike and bingo engine light and has stayed on so far all day.

I'm thinking loose connection in the TSSM serial data line to the speedo.

HELP>

Could be, but do the easy stuff first. Remove and clean (wire brush) both ends of the battery cables. Remember negative off first, on last. While off, check under the insulator at both ends of both cables to see if there is evidence of corrosion. If so, replace. Resecure nice and tight.

See what happens.

Cheers,

TQ

You could also loosen the TSSM so you can shake it, instead of the whole bike. It may provide some clues......

So today pulled tssm and did an experiment with temp variations 75 - 150 degrees Fahrenheit ohm readings danced all over the scale when heated up
Put tssm back into the connection at 105 F no engine light. Took it out and shook it installed no engine light. Bike started up fine no tach gauge. Did same thing to ecm only heated it no engine light.
By the way all connection including battery have cleaned and lined with dielectric grease including ignition switch.
One thing not mentioned was that the battery was replaced prior to symptoms does a reset need to be done on the tssm.
Or is there anything else to check. Thanks for previous response.
