Does it do this everytime you try to start it? I'm wondering....if you put the bike in gear, roll it forward or backward and try it again, does it still do it?

Starter Clutch - mine did that too, was every once in a while, then it just would spin. Got the clutch, its fine now. Cost me $40 bucks. Bad news is that you have to remove your oil tank and pipe to get to it.

My 07 Fatboy started doing that a couple weeks ago. Not all the time. Almost sounds like the battery is weak. Looks like I'll have to add that to the winter "to do" list.
