2000 FXSTS electrical ?

Hello, my first time here. Need some advice on a problem. Took bike into shop for carb issue. All good until about 20 miles out. Bike loses power and sounds like only running on 1 cylinder. Engine light comes on, then it starts running ok, then all of a sudden, all electrics are off. I use the ignition switch and turn off for a second then back on, it catches them back to either 1 cylinder or total loss of electrics. Then it catches and runs on for about 5 miles then happens again. Do the same thing with the ignition switch then it catches and runs on back home about 10 miles. I had changed the ignition about a year ago but didn't ride because of my health. I remember it did the same thing before it went to storage. Going to let it cool down and start looking at ignition wires and around battery. I drove about a mile on gravel road but it didn't hand any problems. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Good question on the codes. Unfortunately I don't have anything to read them with, although a excellent idea. I'll have to look into that. Any suggestion on what type to buy ?
And I'll take seat of later this evening or tomorrow. Thank you for the reply.

Like mentioned previously, start at battery. Clean and tighten cables. Make sure battery is 12.6 volts. Check it while cranking, should be a minimum of 9.6 V while cranking.

Next, go back over the wiring where you replaced ignition module. Sounds like you may have a loose ground.

1. Set Run/Stop to “Run”
2. Press and hold the odometer reset button
3. Turn ignition switch to “Ignition” (don’t start the bike)
4. Release the reset button when “diag” appears on the display

You’ll now see a menu like:

- P = ECM/ICM (Electronic/Ignition Control Module)
- S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/Security Module)
- SP = Speedometer
- T = Tachometer

Each letter will blink—press the reset button to cycle through them. To view codes:

- Select a module (e.g., P)
- Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds
- Codes will display (or “none” if no faults)

- If your FXSTS has a mechanical speedometer, this method won’t work—you’ll need to use the DLC flash-code method or scan tool.
