1974 iron head clutch linkage issue

Hi, and need some help..... I'm having a problem installing primary cover and keeping clutch mechanism inside cover to seat properly when cover is placed back on. It seems everytime things look good with the cable attached, once I install cover clutch lever will not compress.

i had same problem on my 81 sporty finally had to leave clutch cable unhook at lever the adjust it from there also make sure the cable ajuster is all the way down when putting primary cover back on then should line up proper
