The Screamin Eagle air filter kits (stage1) had been packaged with an error in the installation pages that came with the unit for the 08 models.
The instructions omitted the removal of the bracket at the top that is used to secure the stock filter assembly .
If the bracket isn't removed prior to the installation of the stage 1, the new unit will not seat properly and unfiltered air will be drawn in between the backing plate and the throttle body. It is also possible to crack the backing plate if the proper torque is applied with this bracket still in place.
This was an error in the early kits and the later instruction sheets have been corrected.
There have been some dealers that installed it incorrectly so if your dealer installed it , it should be checked for proper installation.
