08 heritage rear brake light switch

hdheritage welcome to the forum. I saw no reason to take the mufflers off when I replaced my switch. Be sure to have some DOT 4 brake fluid on hand as you will need to bleed the brakes.

Also the service manual calls for only 12-15 ft-lbs. of torque when tightening.

Thanks for the torque value TripleJ. Can’t image FLHR being much different.
Just replaced mine last week; no info in service manual on R&R. As was suggested in another post (and I Thank you too), I used some Teflon tape. 2 or 3 wraps about ¼ inch from the end so it starts on with no tape at first. Threads in easy to tape, then tightens quick. Worked fine, no leaks at all.

It is a little tight to get your fingers down there to install the new switch, but you should not have to remove the mufflers. On my custom I used an extention on the ratchet, the one problem I did have was reattaching the wires, it is a little tight. Good luck!
