04 05 wide glide

other than the designation for carb and fi *(fxdwg / fxdwgi)
how can I identify through the vin number....is this possible??
oh, and BTW, where on the bike is the noted or stamped with a fxdwg or i code?

OK took me a minute to find my 04 Owners Manual but here is what it says.
Your HD VIN should be a 17 digit number. First digit is manufactured for what market. It should be a 1. If it were for an International Market it would be a 5. Second -Fourth digits are HD1 I guess this is saying the Motor Company is #1, there is no explanation here. The Fifth and Sixth digits shows Model Designation. The FXDG is marked GE and a FXDGI is marked GP (FXD-GH, FXDI-GM, FXDX-GJ, FXDXI-GR, FXDL-GD, FXDLI-GN). The Seventh digit is whether it is carbureted or injected. If it has a Carb it will be V and if it is injected it will be W. The eighth digit is the year. The ninth digit is for where it is manufactured It shows only a K indicating Kansas City Mo. So that must be the Dyna plant or I think it would have given the variables. The remaining digits are the sequential numbers.

So to answer your question the fifth and sixth digits show model designation, which in turn shows whether it is Carb or injected and the seventh digit says whether it is carbed or injected.

Hope that helps.
